Director of Social Enterprise
(Full-time, approximately 40 hours per week)
 
The role of  Director, Social Enterprise is a new, senior leadership position at WMC. Reporting to the Executive Director, the  role is responsible for leading our existing social impact initiatives while developing opportunities for growth.
 
Our flag ship social enterprise is the Thrift Store. The ‘Store’ exists to positively impact our “People, Profit & Planet”:
 
People: we provide employment opportunities for clients, work-based learning for MISD students, and volunteer opportunities community members
Profit: we generate revenue for programs serving the MISD community
Planet: we provide an environmentally friendly way for our community to recycle unwanted household items
 
This position will oversee the store and other new enterprises, as well as work closely with the leadership team in developing the mission center’s growth and financial sustainability plan for the future.   
 
Responsibilities
 
  • Create a management strategy for the Store
  • Create business plans to achieve revenue targets
  • Work closely with Director of Community Engagement on marketing and volunteer management strategies
  • Create training and employment opportunities for the clients we serve, working closely with the Program Director to provide wrap-around support for clients in transition
  • Record and report on social outputs to enable us to demonstrate our impact and inform decision-making
  • Support the Executive Director in the design and implementation of a social enterprise strategy
  • Develop and implement new enterprise plans in the context of growth
  • Assist the Executive Director in attracting sponsorship, support from grant making organizations, and partnerships with the corporate sector
 Education & Experience
  • Business degree or similar
  • 5+ years management of small business, social enterprise, nonprofit or start-up initiative
  • 5+ years in a nonprofit environment either as a staff person or volunteer
