Volunteer and Communications Coordinator  (full-time, salary)
 
The Volunteer and Communications Manager is the first point of contact for volunteers of the Wesley Mission Center (WMC). This position oversees volunteer coordination for Programs, Thrift Store, Special Events and other organizational needs. This role has a strong focus on volunteer engagement, relationship management, and appreciation. In addition, this role will assist with communication needs for the organization. Position requires a great deal of flexibility for some evenings & weekends. This position reports to the Director of Development.

The Volunteer and Communications Manager is the first point of contact for volunteers of the Wesley Mission Center (WMC). This position oversees volunteer coordination for Programs, Thrift Store, Special Events and other organizational needs. This role has a strong focus on volunteer engagement, relationship management, and appreciation. In addition, this role will assist with communication needs for the organization. Job Responsibilities:
The following is a list of related job tasks; however others may be assigned as necessary:
 
Volunteer Coordination (65%)
  • Provide accurate, detailed information to all phone inquiries pertaining to individuals, companies, and community groups inquiring about volunteer opportunities at the mission center
  • Develop and maintain onboarding process of new volunteers to include orientation and tours of our organization  
  • Coordinate and schedule volunteers on an ongoing basis
  • Work to actively recruit new volunteers through speaking engagements, community events, and other advertising opportunities
  • Match interests of new volunteers with opportunities that best suit their skill set
  • Assure that all volunteers have proper name badges and other supplies needed for their specific position
  • Make sure that all volunteers feel comfortable in their role understand their responsibilities and expectations
  • Ensure that volunteers receive proper training for job specific roles
  • Keep existing volunteers informed via newsletters through Mailchimp (email communication system) and other communication channels
  • Inform volunteers of new and/or additional opportunities to serve
  • Work with each department to ensure that volunteers feel appreciated and stay informed with the most up to date organizational information
  • Plan and execute events specifically for thanking volunteers
 
Volunteer Administration (20%)
·Provide volunteer handbook and orientation in order to maintain consistent expectations
  • Report/Record all volunteer hours into DonorPerfect system
  • Work to develop electronic volunteer sign-up and reporting
  • Assist in recording and updating Mailchimp with volunteer information
  • Maintain up to date hourly recording sheets for all volunteer areas
  • Conduct, record, and track volunteer background checks
  • Maintain confidentiality of all volunteer information
 
Communication and Events (15%)
  • Help with delivery of organization message to the community in order to increase awareness
  • Assist in internal and external communication plans
  • Support the development and delivery of marketing and communications
  • Assist in writing communication and marketing pieces including social media
  • Work with development team to develop marketing collateral
  • Support the planning and logistics of all special events
 
The Volunteer and Communications Manager should ideally possess the following qualifications and personal attributes:
 
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor Degree in a related field preferred
  • 3+ years’ experience in volunteer management or in a communications role
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of customer service principles and practices
  • 3-5 years of volunteer experience in another organization
 
Key Competencies
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and organization
  • Creative thinker and Self-motivated
  • Experience in database management
  • Adobe creative skills are a plus
  • Strong interest in serving community members
  • Strong customer service orientation 
  • Team oriented
  • Professional personal presentation    
  • English proficient

 
Budgeted Salary, subject to change based upon qualifications is $27.040.00
